…Coursework, Qualifying Exams, Dissertation…

…Sleepless nights worried about not meeting expectations…

…real and imagined…

During the first semester of graduate school I was in a constant state of anxiety and stress that the faculty was going to figure out they had made a huge mistake in letting me in!

…Self doubt voiced by vicious ‘inner critics’ in a never ending stream of mental chatter…

“….Everyone here knows so much more than me…”

“…What if I let everyone down?…”

…”What was I even thinking!?!”

“…When is everyone gonna figure out that I’m in over my head?…”

“…All my peers are so much more prepared for this…”

“…What if I fail?…”

….and on and on and on….

  • Crippling Procrastination
  • Self Doubt
  • Anxiety
  • Feelings of Guilt
  • Lack of Sleep
  • No Self-discipline
  • Unhealthy eating habits
  • Bureaucratic requirements
  • Heavy Workloads
  • Research Projects
  • Teaching Responsibilities
  • Job
  • Family
  • Burnout

Is it any wonder the current PhD attrition rate for doctoral candidates is nearly 50%?!*

What I needed, and eventually found, was someone to help me find a clarity that came only from considering my own unique experiences and perspective, leveraging strengths over weakness, and eliciting awareness and insights only I possessed.

I was able to calm the chaos in my head, tame my inner critics, and reconnect to the reasons I started graduate school in the first place.

Since that time, I am privileged to advise graduate students and mentor clinical faculty at major research universities and am aware of the unique challenges faced trying to navigate professional and personal lives while keeping balance and alignment with what matters most.

Serving as a research assistant on multi-million dollar federally funded projects centered around assistive technology, cognitive behavioral problem solving, and executive functioning, I learned a great deal about human behavior, motivation, and academic achievement.

Participating in academia can be a complex endeavor with many challenges.

Some academic high achievers hesitate to ask for help with challenges thinking that it will look like they don’t know what they are doing.

Some may be embarrassed at needing help for the first time in their academic lives.

Others have seemingly tried everything in an effort to finish the hardest task they have ever undertaken.

Many are hesitant to ask for help, but if you are looking for someone…

  • with insight into the demands and pressures of graduate school
  • understands the literature on positive psychology, motivation, and achievement
  • knows the challenges involved in completing a dissertation while also attempting to maintain some semblance of a personal life.
  • Has experience helping students like you get across the finish line

…don’t hesitate to contact me. It may make all the difference!

Finding the right dissertation coach can be a critical step towards graduation.
